Kathleen Schwartzman's research and teaching focus on the role of food imports and exports in development and dependency of lesser developed nations. In essence, she does the political economy of food from a world-system perspective. She has written about Portugal, Cuba, Mexico, and Brazil, and her most recent work focuses on poultry and garlic.
